Hello guys! It’s been long time I have written any article
for my blog!
Well, today, I want to share my experience with you. I
am…let me correct it….I was a lazy person. I will tell you about one habit of
mine through which you can definitely get assured about my laziness, and that
is waking up late!!!!
Many would have guessed it! Isn’t it?
I was of an opinion that since I work hard the entire day, I
can afford late sleeping hours. Little was I aware that somehow I was draining
my energy and my capabilities by dozing for longer hours.
It is just few days back; I was reading ‘The monk who sold
his Ferrari!’ This book from page one gives you a lot of po
sitive energy and
inspires you to bring out the best in you. I was awestruck when I read the
following lines-
“Do you know why most people sleep so much?”
“Why?”
“Because they really don’t have anything else to do. Those
who rise with the sun all have one thing in common.”
“Insanity?”
“Very funny. No, they all have a purpose that fans the
flames of their inner potential.”
Isn’t that true! I really felt so much stupid about me by
imagining how many hours and days and months I might have wasted!
So thus began, my early morning wake up routine. I will be
very frank, it is a big task. Yes, a real big one! For starters I set an alarm
of 7 am. (It is two hours early for a 9 am person). I had initially decided on
5 am. But that would be way too tough and impractical. The sudden change for my
body and mind would not last longer. So I finalized 7 am.
The first day, I snoozed the alarm and set it to 7.30 am.
Later to 8 am. There was some mysterious energy that was not allowing me to
wake up from my bed. I gradually woke at 9.30 am. Half hour late than my usual
time. A disaster!!
The second day, I managed waking up by 8 am. I felt drowsy.
I wanted to go back to my comfy bed. But somehow I did it.
The third day, a catastrophe again! 10 am, my mobile watch
displayed! I was furious. Why can’t I do it I wondered! That night when I went
to bed, I closed my eyes and imagined the following scenario-
I woke with a fresh
feeling. I saw my cellphone. It showed 7 am. I saw it again to confirm. I
brushed my teeth and washed my face. I wore my track suit and took the keys of
my scooty and descended the stairs of my building.
I started my scooty
and went to a nearby local garden. I was walking in the garden amidst the fresh
flowers and trees. The cool thin breeze hustling through my hair. I saw a lot
of fitness enthusiasts, some jogging, some walking and few performing the yoga
asanas.
I opened my eyes. The
mere imagination created a wonderful impact on me. I wanted to experience all
of these. I set my alarm for 7 am and slept peacefully.
The next morning I woke with a surprise. I felt extremely
fresh and woke up exactly on time. I did all that I had imagined. I went to the
garden, after talking a small walk, I sat on a bench and thought about what
tasks I had to accomplish that day! Believe me, that day was one of the most
energetic days of my life!
The next days I continued doing the same. Initially it was
tough but gradually things fell into place!
I now wake up at 6.30 am each morning, go for a walk in a
fresh surrounding and start my day!
I have cultivated a new habit. It is yet in the trial and error
situation, but with the help of visualization I am pretty sure I will not drown
the sailing ship! It can be a frustrating process as you wait for these changes
to take effect and become more automatic, as habits do.
So how long does it take to form a new habit? A week? A month? A
year?At least 2 months (or about 66 days, on average), according to a research. We can try and manage it!
I would also like to tell you the positive changes I saw in me with this new habit of waking up early.
·
I felt fresh
and energetic.
·
I felt
optimistic.
·
I did not
feel drained out.
·
With extra
time I managed doing more things.
·
I read more.
·
I spend time identifying long-range goals for myself
·
I feel in charge of making
things happen.
·
It is also said that morning people anticipate problems better.
·
I spend time walking hence improved my health.
The best benefit is that I enjoy
a better restorative sleep!!
VoilĂ ! That’s
all! So when are you pushing yourself to get better and perform excellently?
If I can do
it, you can too! Believe in yourself and your inner capabilities!
Good luck!!!
